…and a little bit of Finnish sung in the Karelian dialect

The title track Helsinki c'est si bath was translated by me and Jeanne Couprie from Veikko Lehmuksela’s original version (Niin gimis on Stadi), which dates back to the beginning of the Winter War in December 1941. It describes Helsinki’s history and traditions — and people who cherish their memory. It was written in the slang spoken in the Finnish capital, which has influences from Swedish and Russian. Few young Finns today know this song. We have tried to keep our translation close to the spirit of the original.

Includes cover versions of well-loved songs originally written in Finnish, Swedish and English, freshly translated into French
